Edinburgh Festival Looks East For 2011
爱丁堡国际艺术节向东看

his year's Edinburgh international festival is
"an exploration and celebration of the vibrant
and diverse cultures of Asia ", organizers said
in a statement. One of the highlights will be a ballet
adaptation of The Peony Pavilion, a love story by
Chinese playwright Tang Xianzu, performed by the
National Ballet of China. The version of the classic
Chinese tale brings together Western classical bal-
let, a symphony orchestra and traditional Chinese
instruments.
"European artists, explorers and philosophers have
drawn inspiration from the Far East for centuries,"
said festival director Jonathan Mills. "This festival
draws inspiration from across the diverse cultures of
Asia, from Vietnam to China."

ueen Sofia of Spain visited twin pandas
Po and De De at the Zoo & Aquarium
on March 29; it was the first time for
them to leave the brood chamber for the outside
world.
Po and De De’s parents Bingxing and Hua
Zuiba are from Chengdu. Last September, Hua
Zuiba gave birth to the twins, bringing surprise and
happiness to Spanish panda fans, Queen Sofia, even
fed them herself.
