A Hanban delegation was invited
to attend the Fourth Annual National
Chinese Language Conference held
from April 14-16 in San Francisco.
Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong
attended the conference and delivered
a speech. Other guests included U.S.
Assistant Secretary of State Kurt Camp-
bell, College Board President Gaston
Caperton and Asia Society President
Vishakha Desai. The conference, at-
tended by almost 1,500 professionals in
the field of Chinese language education
from across America, is the largest in

U.S. National Chinese Language Conference
Held in San Francisco
terms of scale and standard.
The conference, co-sponsored by
the Asia Society and the College Board
of U.S. and Hanban, has been held
annually since 2008. Its purpose is to
strengthen exchanges of teachers and
Chinese educational institutions across
America and to promote Chinese edu-
cation in the country. This year’s con-
ference, with the theme of “Connect,
Innovate, Lead,” covered five plenary
sessions and six group sessions. The
plenary sessions discussed topics on
“Technology and Innovation: How In-
