n March 1, 2011, the f irst
Conf ucius Cl a s sroom in
Wales,U.K. was established
in Llandovery College. His
Roy a l Hi ghne s s Br i t i sh
Prince Charles and His Excellency Liu Xiaom-
ing, Chinese Ambassador to the U.K., opened
the Confucius Classroom and joined the cer-
ebrations.
In the Confucius Classroom, Prince
Charles had a cordial chat with the teachers
from China and talked with British students
about Chinese learning. Speaking to hundreds
of teachers, parents and student representatives,
the Prince said that foreign language learning
helps us understand cultures of other countries
and he hoped that the Confucius Classroom
would make constant progress in the future.
The inauguration ceremony began in
a joyous atmosphere. March 1 also marked
Llandovery’s 163rd anniversary and this well-
known private school indulged in merry festiv-
ity. Entertainment that featured both Chinese
and Welsh traditions was the highlight of the
cerebrations. Headmaster Hunter said he was
happy to see his students learning Chinese, an
important world language, which would help
them to make greater achievements in a global
environment.
Llandovery College stresses the impor-
tance of learning Chinese culture. At present,
the school has more than 300 students and
nearly one in four students is learning Chinese.
On Chinese festivals, the school organizes
various events to attract local citizens and stu-
dents from other schools to promote Chinese
culture.
